Kathy Stenger Appointed to SWCD Board
The Becker Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) Board of Supervisors have appointed Kathy Stenger of rural Detroit Lakes, to the finish the term of board member Joe Stenger, who recently resigned from the position due to work commitments that prevented him from fulfilling his board responsibilities. Kathy has served as the township clerk for Height of Land Township since 2005 and is a member of the SWCD Comprehensive Weed Management Committee. read more

Secretary Vilsack Signs Historic Agreement with EPA and State of Minnesota Encouraging Farmers to Protect Rivers, Streams and Lakes
ST. PAUL, Minn., Jan, 17, 2012 – Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the state of Minnesota to develop a new state program for farmers designed to increase the voluntary adoption of conservation practices that protect local rivers, streams and other waters by reducing fertilizer run-off and soil erosion. read more

Watershed Residents Invited to Open House
The Buffalo-Red River Watershed District (BRRWD) invites residents to help digest results of a monitoring study that shows new water quality issues in the Buffalo River watershed at an open house on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, in Barnesville. All area residents, especially those living along or near the Buffalo River, are invited to attend. The meeting will be held from 1:30-4:00 PM at Hildebrand Hall, Assumption Catholic Church, Barnesville.read more
