2012 Tree Orders Now Available

With winter just around the corner, now is the time to prepare for your spring tree planting needs.  The Becker Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCD) 2012 Tree Order form is now available.  Landowners interested in ordering trees for next spring delivery can contact the Becker SWCD office at 846-7360 to request a tree order form, or go to the SWCD web page on the Becker County web site to download a order form. 

Each year the SWCD provides tree planning and planting assistance to residents of Becker County desiring to establish windbreaks or wildlife plantings on their lands.  “This effort starts in November each year when landowners can begin ordering tree stock, and can request our technicians to come out and review their windbreak needs with them,” says District Administrator Brad Grant.  “In addition qualifying windbreaks may be eligible to receive cost-share assistance to help with the cost of establishing the windbreak.” Grant continued.

So if you have a newly built home in need of a windbreak, or if your existing shelterbelt needs beefing up, now is the time to come in and place your tree order with us.  We will be happy to discuss your tree plans with you and make recommendations on designs to maximize wind control, and snow drift management.  The SWCD can also recommend tree types from a variety of species that will be suited to your soil types while meeting your functional needs. 

The SWCD has been providing tree services to county residents since 1951 when the District purchased its first tree planter.  Over the years literally hundreds of farmstead windbreaks, field windbreaks and wildlife plantings have been established in Becker County through the District tree program. Trees ordered for 2012 spring planting will  arrive in late April.  Remember “the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago; the next best time is now”
